Psychometric Properties of the German Version of the Pulmonary-Specific Quality-of-Life Scale in Lung Transplant Patients

Abstract: The Pulmonary-Specific Quality-of-Life Scale (PQLS) is a validated self-report questionnaire assessing health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with end-stage lung disease awaiting lung transplantation. The aim of our study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the German version of the PQLS. One hundred and forty patients awaiting lung transplantation (55% men) with a median age of 53 years [Interquartile range (IQR) 13] answered the PQLS. A group of the participants ( n … Show more

“…The subgroup of 143 patients also completed the Pulmonaryspecific Quality-of-Life Scale (PQLS), a self-report questionnaire assessing quality of life specifically in patients with end-stage lung diseases (25,37). The scale consists of 25 items which are rated on a five-point-Likert-scale ranging from 1 ("not at all") to 5 ("most of the time").…”

“…The Pulmonary-Specific Quality-of-Life Scale (PQLS) is a selfreport questionnaire assessing HRQoL specifically in patients prior to and after lung transplantation (22)(23)(24). Each of the 25 items is rated on a five-point-Likert-scale ranging from 1 ("not at all") to 5 ("most of the time").…”

“…The scale comprises three subscales ("task interference," "psychological," and "physical"), which focus on different aspects of HRQoL. For this study, the German version was used (24). Cronbach's a was 0.805 for the subscale "task interference," 0.829 for the subscale "psychological," 0.881 for the subscale "physical," and 0.866 for the total score.…”

“…In addition, a literature has reported HRQoL as an important intervention efficacy outcome for patients [8]. Various instruments have been proposed to precisely measure the HRQoL of individuals [9]. Composed a descriptive system including five dimensions and an EQ-Visual Analogue Scale system focusing on overall health status, European Quality of Life Five Dimension (EQ-5D) instrument was one of the most applicable measurements to assess HRQoL [10].…”
