Psychometric Properties of the Korean Version of the Tromsø Social Intelligence Scale

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to translate Tromsø Social Intelligence Scale (TSIS) into Korean and verify the validity and reliability of the Korean version of the TSIS. Methods: This study used a methodological research design. Exploratory factor analysis, content, construct, criterion-related validity, and internal consistency reliability of the TSIS were evaluated. Participants, 269 nursing students, were recruited from three universities in three provinces in South Korea from November 2016 to April 2017. R… Show more

“…It has subscales for social information processing, social skills, and social awareness [ 27 ]. It was developed for a Norwegian-speaking sample but has been validated and used in English [ 34 ], Italian [ 35 ], and Korean [ 36 ], among other languages. Respondents are provided the following instructions: “For each item, indicate how well it describes you on a scale from 1 (describes me extremely poorly) to 7 (describes me extremely well)”.…”

“…Using this three-dimensional structure for SI, Silvera et al (2001) developed the Tromso Social Intelligence Scale, which includes social information processing, social skills, and social awareness, and was later widely accepted and used by other researchers (e.g., Grieve & Mahar, 2013;Gini, 2006;Yahyazadeh-Jeloudar & Lotfi-Goodarzi, 2012;Ebrahimpoor et al, 2013;Rostamian & Sadrabadi, 2016). This tool, which defines SI with three dimensions, has demonstrated strong psychometric properties and has been implemented in numerous countries with high validity and reliability scores (Chater et al, 2023;Doğan & Çetin, 2009;Rezaie, 2011;Gini, 2006;Grieve & Mahar, 2013;Park et al, 2019). The superiority of the TSIS based on these three dimensions over other measures lies in the reduction of dimensions to three, compared to the more complex previous measures.…”
