Psychometric Testing of the Japanese Version of the Daily Record of Severity of Problems Among Japanese Women

Abstract: The Daily Record of Severity of Problems (DRSP) is commonly used to assess premenstrual syndrome and premenstrual dysphoric disorder throughout the world. The aim of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of the Japanese version of the DRSP (DRSP-J). “…Further studies considering these factors are needed to confirm the reliability of these findings. Consecutive prospective evaluations using the Daily Record of Severity of Problem (DRSP) are recommended for accurate assessment of premenstrual symptoms [30], and it is possible to use the Japanese version of the DRSP, for which the validity and reliability have been confirmed [66]. Using DRSP assessment in a large-scale prospective study of the general public, and performing blood and stool collection at specific times during the follicular and luteal phases, respectively, would be expected to provide more definitive results.…”

“…[9][10][11][12] Moreover, no biomarkers have been identified for diagnosis; instead, a daily diary such as the Calendar of Premenstrual Experience 13 and the Daily Record of Severity of Problems (DRSP), 14 in which premenstrual symptoms are described, is the gold standard for accurate diagnosis. We have also translated and used the Japanese version of the DRSP (DRSP-J) in clinical trials, 15,16 but the daily description is burdensome for participants and may be difficult to use in large-scale epidemiological studies.…”

“…34 For Asian languages, Chinese and Japanese versions have been created and validity and reliability have been examined. [35][36][37][38][39][40] Two types of questionnaires exist in the Japanese version: the DRSP-J [36][37][38] and the J-DRSP, 39,40 which were developed independently. The Chinese version of the DRSP and DRSP-J showed strong evidence of validity and reliability as compared with the original DRSP.…”

“…The original English version has been adequately tested for reliability validity, but psychometric properties have not been fully examined 34 . For Asian languages, Chinese and Japanese versions have been created and validity and reliability have been examined 35–40 . Two types of questionnaires exist in the Japanese version: the DRSP‐J 36–38 and the J‐DRSP, 39,40 which were developed independently.…”
