“…Pre-donation psychological factors were associated with elevated rates of post-donation anxiety and depression, or poorer coping. These factors included neuroticism (p < 0.001), extraversion and impulsivity (p < 0.001), 14 negative selfimage, 24 and poor pre-operative emotional coping (anxiety). 22 Donor's state anxiety (STAI-S) did not change from pre-donation to immediate or short term follow up, 23 but pre-donation state anxiety (STAI-S) diminished significantly (p = 0.0027) at long term follow up assessment.…”

“…As with a previous review [15], the diagnosis of depression can be classified into clinical diagnosis, self‐rated questionnaire or self‐reported depression. A clinician‐rated diagnosis was made either through an evaluation by a psychiatrist according to the criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition, text revision (DSM‐IV‐TR) or based on the use of antidepressants [5,7,16–23]. Self‐rated questionnaire included the used of validated depression scales (e.g., patient health questionnaire; PHQ‐9 [6,24], Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale; HADS [25], Korean Center for Epidemiological Studies‐Depression Scale; CES‐D [8], Brief Symptom Rating Scale; BSRS [26], Primary Care Evaluation of Mental Disorders; PRIME‐MD [27]), while self‐reported depression referred to patients’ self‐identification of depressive symptoms post donation [28,29].…”
