Healthcare is an important sector that serves the Malaysian population and is in high demand. The sector's carbon footprint has an impact on the natural environment, and healthcare waste management services reduce this environmental impact. This study examines residents' knowledge, perception, and willingness to pay for healthcare waste management services. A total of 384 respondents, selected through the cluster sampling method, participated in the survey for this study. The research sample comprised Putrajaya residents who were at least 18 years old. The findings showed that the respondents had a broader knowledge age. The respondents also had a slightly high perception of environmental issues. The estimated willingness to pay values were RM6.73, RM5.90 and RM5.32 annually for those in the bottom 40%, middle 40% and top 20% income groups, respectively, based on the results of the double-bounded contingent valuation method. The annual willingness to pay value was approximately RM2.34 million (US$0.54 million). The residents mostly preferred to pay annually via online banking. These findings could help decision-makers attain residents' support by identifying the affordable amount for the fee and the preferred payment methods. It will also help determine how to best collect healthcare waste management service fees and develop new healthcare waste management policies.

AimThis study employed the willingness‐to‐pay (WTP) method to investigate parents' valuation of fissure sealant (FS) and fluoride varnish (FV) therapy.DesignThis cross‐sectional analytical study was conducted in 2021 among 100 parents. The maximum WTP were collected using payment cards, an originally developed validated and reliable questionnaire, educational videos, and a hypothetical scenario. The data were analyzed using ANOVA, t‐test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and linear regression tests (α = 0.05).ResultsThe mean (±SD) WTP was 245 700 (±158 756.24) and 232380.0 (±166 561.71) IR Tomans for FS and FV, respectively. WTP was significantly higher among parents who visited private clinics (p < 0.05) and government employees. Both in the whole sample and in the public group, parents without supplemental insurance had lower WTP values. The WTP values elicited through the payment card method (p = 0.014) and the open‐ended question (p = 0.031) for fathers with educational attainment below a high school diploma were significantly lower. There was no significant difference between the WTP values for these two therapies. Income level of the parents was the main indicator in the regression models, especially for WTP values of FS.ConclusionsThe demographic and socioeconomic conditions of parents as well as their insurance status were associated with the WTP values.

Willingness to pay, familiarity and political attitudes: The case of integrating people with intellectual disabilities

Background Integrating people with intellectual disabilities into the community has become a major goal in improving society in general. Our study adds an important layer to discussions of how to achieve this goal. Method We examine both the willingness to integrate people into the community and their willingness to pay for this integration. Using a representative sample of 813 Israeli respondents, we consider two factors in these attitudes: familiarity with the issue and people's political attitudes. Results We found that most people are willing to integrate people with intellectual disabilities into the community and some people are willing to pay for this integration. Those who are familiar with people with intellectual disabilities and those from the left side of the political map are more willing to pay to achieve this goal. Conclusions Familiarity and political attitudes matter in the willingness to pay to integrate people with intellectual disabilities into the community.
