Public Stakeholders' Perception of ICZM and Coastal Erosion in the Mediterranean

Abstract

III Agraïments Estem a primers dels 2008. Abans de tancar aquesta etapa i proposar-me nous reptes no puc deixar de mirar enrera i recordar l'immens suport que he rebut de tantíssimes persones. Entre tots heu contribuit a donar forma a aquest projecte i aquestes línies volen fer-vos arribar el meu profund agraïment i la gran satisfacció em queda de què m'hagueu acompanyat durant aquesta llarga travessia. Començo pels meus directors. La Míriam em va iniciar en les ciències socials quan ens vam conèixer en el projecte Eurosion. Gràcies a la seva presència des del bon principi i al seu paper més enllà de lo professional, és en gran part la responsable de què hagi arribat a bon port. El David amb el seu entusiasme i les ganes d'innovar ha sigut un bon estímul. El finançament de la recerca no ha faltat mai gràcies als següents projectes i institucions:

Visitors' awareness of ICZM and WTP for beach preservation in four European Mediterranean regions

“…In particular, in Mediterranean countries, this institutional issue is dealt with by Nasr et al [29] in Egypt, Akyarh et al [1] in Turkey, and Rupprecht Consult and International Ocean Institute [32] in Malta, France, Slovenia and Spain. In addition, Koutrakis et al [20] deal with public stakeholders' perception of ICZM in five regions of Greece, Italy and France, and highlight that in all regions these stakeholders perceive a lack of collaboration and poor information exchange among the institutions responsible for coastal management, thus the implementation of ICZM is difficult. As highlighted above, Koutrakis et al [21] deal with private stakeholders' perception of ICZM in all the BEACHMED-e regions.…”

Assessment of the Coastal Vulnerability to the Ongoing Sea Level Rise for the Exquisite Rhodes Island (SE Aegean Sea, Greece)

“…For the protection of the most vulnerable coasts of Rhodes, the well-known Integrated Coastal Zone Management strategy [128,137] should be firstly considered as a basis. In addition to that, common and standard widely used hard engineering structures, such as seawalls, revetments, parallel or normal to the shore groins and detached breakwaters, could offer multiple benefits.…”

‘Generation Nemo’: motivations, satisfaction and career goals of marine biology students

“…However, the limited suite of career opportunities made available to marine biologists in the Italian context may be the result of at least another three connected issues. First, it may result from the potential lack of attention by government and part of the general public towards problems affecting the Italian coastline (Amato 2001;Koutrakis et al 2010;Kreiken 2008;Rochette 2009). While this scenario is changing on various regional scales (Koutrakis et al 2010) the country may still be slow at giving due weight to these problems.…”
