Pulmonary Embolism in Covid-19 patients: A French Multicentre Cohort Study

Abstract: Background While pulmonary embolism (PE) appears to be a major issue in Covid-19, data remain sparse. Purpose We aimed to describe the risk factors and baseline characteristics of patients with PE in a large cohort of Covid-19 patients. Methods In a retrospective multicentric observational study, we included consecutive hospitalised patients for Covid-19. Patients without computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA)-proven PE diagnosis, t… Show more

“…However, this relationship became significant at the time of peak NT-proBNP assessment during admission. Pneumonia and pulmonary embolism are both well-known complications of COVID-19 19,20 and clinical entities in which NT-proBNP has proven useful to improve prognostic stratification. 7,8 Both situations may potentially result in right ventricular strain and higher intracavitary pressures in right cardiac chambers.…”

“…Myocardial injury is a common complication in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID- 19) and has been associated with poor outcomes. However, most researchers and definitions have focused on cardiac troponins and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging.…”

“…An increase of 1.5 years in the mean age of OHCA and death cases during the COVID-19 epidemic compared to that of the previous year was another finding of this study. In another study, 521 of OHCA and death cases during the pandemic (March 16 to April 26, 2020) were compared to the total average number of 3,052 cases during similar weeks in the non-pandemic period (weeks [12][13][14][15][16][17][2012][2013][2014][2015][2016][2017][2018][2019]. It showed that the maximum number of weekly incidences of OHCA and death cases was increased from 13.42 to 26.64 per million inhabitants, although the demographic information of patients like age (mean age: 69.7 versus 68.5 years old) was not significantly different in the pandemic versus the non-pandemic period.…”

“…11 Also, the risk of thromboembolic events and acute coronary syndrome is higher in patients with COVID-19, which can increase the incidence of OHCA. 12 Altogether, checking the accuracy of the above-mentioned matters in different societies requires research and investigation. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate and compare characteristics of Tehran EMS (Iran) missions in OHCA and death cases in the periods of before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.…”
