Abstract:Aspergillus fumigatus is the etiologic agent of invasive aspergillosis, a life-threatening fungal pneumonia that is initiated by the inhalation of conidia (spores) into the lung. If the conidia are not cleared, they secrete large quantities of hydrolytic enzymes and toxins as they grow, resulting in extensive damage to pulmonary tissue. Stromal fibroblasts are central responders to tissue damage in many organs, but their functional response to pulmonary injury caused by A. fumigatus has not been explored. In t… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
