Pulmonary function tests in air conditioner users

Abstract: Background: Modernization has been implicated in the pathogenesis of allergic airway diseases. House dust, mites, and indoor air pollutants have been reported to cause elevation of serum IgE levels and/or enhancement of eosinophil activity. A component of modern lifestyle is the intense use of air-conditioners (AC) that has increased the risk of atopic sensitization. Aim: To assess the effect of air conditioners on pulmonary function tests in healthy non-smokers. Methods: The study included 100 subjects using … Show more

“…However, health problems associated with AC systems and indoor air quality occur more frequently [21]. Common ailments evaluated in the study corroborate with highlighted complaints reported by Vidya et al [11], which include mucous membrane irritation, breathing difficulties, irritated skin, and constitutional/neurological symptoms such as headache and fatigue. Yu et al [21] stated that indoor environment problems still exist in many AC buildings, even though existing standards may be met.…”

“…These findings are in harmonic with the presence of the hepatic damage that was seen in the ACR-treated male mice by light microscopy. It has been reported that ACR induced depletion in the levels of α-ketoglutarate [49] and this increased the acetyl CoA levels. This acetyl CoA may be used for the synthesis of total cholesterol and some fatty acids, since fatty acids of different sources are used as substrates for synthesizing of triglycerides and phospholipids.…”

(34)(35)(36)(37)(38)(39)(40) Systolic BP was signi cantly higher in auto drivers than students, and it increased with age in males. This result was found to be similar to the previous studies reported.…”
