The present study was conducted under CFLD at the farmers’ fields under the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ramagirikhilla, Peddapalli District operational area for three kharif seasons during 2016-17 to 2019-20 covering 169 locations. The demonstrated technology delineated the practices of improved selection (PRG-176), seed treatment with Rhizobium @ 250 g acre-I, soil application of Trichoderma viridii @ 2kg acre-I mixing with FYM @ one hundred kilo acre-I and plant protection measures with installation of pheromone traps @ four per acre, spraying of neem oil @one liter acre-I and Profenofos 50 EC @ 400ml acre-I. The result of demonstration showed higher productivity notably as 15.91 q ha-I compared to the farmers practice (13.42 q ha-I) with a mean increase of 19.50%. Technology index and technology gap values were 59.57 per cent and 4.08 q ha-I respectively. The results conjointly unconcealed that the typical increase within the net return with demonstration was 55248 Rs. ha-I and 40651 Rs. ha-I over farmers practice respectively. Similarly, mean benefit cost ratio was recorded with demonstration as 2.63 compared to farmers practice (2.18) throughout the years of trial. Adoption of improved technology as well as new selection, timely supply of essential inputs with correct steering by the human, frequent watching visits to fields diagnose the issues and take applicable corrective measures, field days etc., can be the contributive factors for prime yield with smart quality in all told demonstration plots.

Bundelkhand region of India is primarily agrarian, vulnerable to natural calamities with low levels of industrialization and urbanization. Poor crop productivity, declining and irregular rainfall pattern and poor income levels make livelihood uncertain in the region. Pulse crops assume a special significance to the farm economy in Bundelkhand region as well as daily diets of local habitants. Chickpea, lentil, field pea, urdbean, mungbean and pigeon pea are the major pulse crops cultivated in the region. Data from Department of economics and statistics, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation and Farmers Welfare, New Delhi and the studies on pulses development of Bundelkhand region of India were analyzed. Pulses account for 32% of total agriculture produce and occupy about 33.6% of gross cropped area in the region. However, decline in area coverage of pulses has been observed in the region, in contrast to overall increase in gross cropped area in the region. The paper discusses about the various challenges confronting pulses cultivation in the region along with the possible intervention points for bringing out an enhanced pulse production.

Pulses are considered a remarkable and stable source of nutrients, which are being presently extensively cultivated and consumed in different parts of the world. Pulses belong to the family Leguminosae and are a rich source of nutrients such as phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) for best growth via symbiotic relationship with bacteria and AMF (arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi). The aim of the current study was evaluating the influence of AMF diversity associated with various pulses (French bean, mung bean, kidney bean, peas, soybean, peanuts, and grams). Furthermore, AMF characterization was done using morphological features of spores and sequencing of the rDNA gene, which confirmed the existence of 10 different AMF taxa. Among the different genera, the genus Glomus was observed to be the most dominant with 30% species followed by Gigaspora (22%), Sclerocystis (12%), Acaulospora (8%), Rhizophagus and Septoglomus (7%), Diversispora (5%), and Claroideoglomus, Archaeospora, and Ambispora (3%). Furthermore, soil physicochemical analysis and percentage of AMF colonization results revealed the fact that the phosphorus content (inversely proportional to the AMF diversity) was a determining factor of AMF diversity. The highest amount of available phosphorus (62.825 mg kg −1 ) in the district Swabi resulted in a low rate of AMF colonization (6.66 ± 11.54%) with a comparatively higher rate of AMF colonization (50.66 ± 1.15%) found in the soil of the district Chitral having a low phosphorus content (17.3 ± 7.6 mg kg −1 ). Nutrient uptake by pulses including nitrogen (2.4 ± 1.3%), phosphorus (13.5 ± 7.6 mg kg −1 ), potassium (99.5 ± 25.8 mg kg −1 ), zinc (1.4 ± 0.5 mg kg −1 ), moisture (2.3 ± 1.3%), crude fats (5.6 ± 2.8%), ash (4 ± 1.2%), and proteins (13.6 ± 9.01%) determined the fact that AMF species diversity is positively correlated to the plant mineral nutrition. From the current study, it is concluded that AMF inoculation to the soil fields is beneficial to ensure the sustainability and productivity of pulse crops in diverse environmental conditions without polluting the soil.
