PV and Grid interfaced Plug-in EV Battery Charger operating in P-VG, P-V and V-G Modes

Abstract:  Abstract: The proposed system facilitates uninterruptable charging of a photovoltaic (PV) fed plug-in electric vehicle (EV) battery charging system irrespective of solar irradiation conditions by integrating utility grid to the battery charging system. The system employs bidirectional cycloconverter (BDCC) in order to use utility grid as source or sink during different modes of operation which depends on the availability of solar power. During low irradiation condition, the utility grid acts as a backup sour… Show more

“…With this ASAI, the charging system having an EFR of 0.06 f/y provides availability of 83.91%. The reliability of the PSS is determined using Equation (16). For a 5 years old SEV, the PSS's reliability is found to be 96.61%.…”

“…Most of the studies carried out so far were confined to the design and performance analysis of a few selected components of a SEV system. Subudhi et al proposed a battery charging system for PV system and grid interfaced plug‐in EVs 16 . Gobhinath et al demonstrated a practical approach to design and fabricate a four‐wheeled SEV 17 .…”

“…The authors of [27] have proposed a conventional PI controller to enhance the power quality of a multilayer single-phase inverter. The authors of [28,29] have stressed that voltage sag is a frequent problem that often results in unnecessary tripping when applied to a single-phase system operating in both ON and OFF grid modes. In addition, in an earlier study [30], the authors use a PV system to solve a problem related to the efficient control of the reactive power caused by using loads that influence the current supplied from the source.…”

“…A multilevel single phase inverter using PI controller is used to improve power quality in [15]. Voltage sag occurrence is a common issue which may cause unnecessary tripping in the case of a single phase system that is working in grid connected or islanded mode [16][17]. To address the reactive power control issue caused by the use of loads which affects the current being drawn from the source, a PV system is used in [18].…”
