PVDF based Nanocomposite Membranes: Application towards Wastewater treatment

Abstract: Water is precious natural resource on earth but rapid industrialization and effluent discharge from domestic, agriculture and municipal wastes is polluting water continuously. Membrane technology provide solution to water related problems and used as an attractive tool for removal of pollutants from water. Different types of polymeric membranes are used for wastewater treatment but certain drawbacks are related to polymeric membranes such as hydrophobicity, fouling and low mechanical strength. Incorporation of… Show more

“…The mean pore sizes of the membranes range from 19.6 ± 0.9 to 21.7 ± 0.9 nm, which is included in the pore size range of UF membranes. 78 Mean pore size decreased with the incorporation of HNT into the membranes. The lower mean pore size of the PAN-HNT-1 membrane compared to other membranes can be explained by the fact that high amounts of HNT cause blockage in the pores of the membrane.…”

“…PVDF and PVP were dissolved separately in DMF with weight percentages of 12.5 and 2.5 wt.%, respectively [ 29 ]. After the complete dissolving of the two polymers, they were blended together and stirred for 2 h to ensure the homogeneity of the mixture.…”

“…Access to safe and clean water is crucial for maintaining good health as it plays a vital role in our life cycle [1]. Even though 97% of the earth's surface is covered with seawater [2], which is unsuitable for human consumption due to its high salt content, only 2.5% of the world's water is freshwater, with the remaining 2% being stored in glaciers and ice caps [3].…”
