PVDF/PMMA brushes membrane for lithium‐ion rechargeable batteries prepared via preirradiation grafting technique

Abstract: Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) was anchored to multiporous poly(vinylidine fluoride) (PVDF) surface via electron beam preirradiation grafting technique to prepare PVDF/PMMA brushes. The conformation of the PVDF/PMMA brushes was verified through Attenuated total reflection‐Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy (ATR‐FTIR), energy dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDX), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Thermal stability of PVDF/PMMA brushes was characterized by thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA). The degr… Show more

“…Therefore, the addition of PMMA not only controls the porosity, but also is correlated with the liquid electrolyte uptake of the film, resulting in high ionic conductivity of the membrane. The characteristic peaks observed are common to both pure PVDF and pure PMMA membranes [40][41][42]. From Fig 3(a), the vibrational band at 1406 cm -1 corresponds to CH 2 wagging deformation of pure PVDF membrane.…”

“…3, it can be clearly seen that the intensity of this peak gradually decreases, while the peak is slightly shifted to 1734 cm -1 in the PVDF/PMMA blend membrane. This result suggests that there is a specific interaction between the carbonyl groups of PMMA and the CH 2 groups of PVDF, and indicates the formation of a PVDF/PMMA blended membrane [41,42]. Table 2.…”

“…, which originated from the complex effect of the carbonyl group and the low motion of polymer chain segment. Up to date, many attempts have been done to improve the ionic conductivity of PMMA-salt systems, such as modification of the composition of PMMA-salt systems by the addition of nanoparticles [9][10][11][12][13], modification of the structure of PMMA system by blending them with other polymers [14][15][16], copolymers [17][18][19]. A series of star polymers with new topology have been synthesized with the development of polymeric technology, such as ATRP.…”

“…It is widely used in many industrial applications such as ultrafiltration and microfiltration, [1][2][3][4] lithium ion batteries, [5] and organic/inorganic or all-organic electromechanical composites. [6,7] In addition, PVDF is biocompatible, which extends its promise to the medical field.…”
