Ph (403) 492 7037Abstmct-This paper describes the operation of the buck-type hybrid inverter drive during steady state and also during output short-circuit fault conditions. The step-up action of the inverter bridge, combined with the step-down action of the buck stage, allow the dc-rail voltage to be regulated at levels above the rectified supply voltage. This is possible even during periods of supply voltage fluctuations. The drive de-link allows protection to be obtained against short circuit faults such as line-line and line-ground faults. Simulation results are used to illustrate the drive operation.
