Qualitative analysis of HIV and AIDS disease transmission: impact of awareness, testing and effective follow up

Abstract: Background: Since the early 1980s, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and its accompanying acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) have spread worldwide, becoming one of the world's major global health issues. From the beginning of the epidemic until 2020, about 79.3 million people became infected, with 36.3 million deaths due to AIDS illnesses. “…Regarding the relationship between HIV/AIDS-related knowledge and health education towards HIV/AIDS, college students who receive more comprehensive education on HIV have a stronger understanding of the virus, in line with previous research [6, 30,34,41]. This group of students demonstrates greater caution and resistance to engaging in risky sexual behavior [6, [23][24][25], resulting in lower HIV incidence compared to those with limited HIV knowledge [22,26]. Therefore, increasing the extent and scope of AIDS-related education in colleges is of signi cant importance in preventing and controlling HIV/AIDS.…”

“…This cross-sectional study aims to present an analysis of the present-day awareness of HIV/AIDS among college students with conservative and open sexual attitudes in Wenzhou city. HIV/AIDS-related knowledge plays a signi cant role in preventing and controlling HIV [22]. Lack of knowledge about HIV is associated with increased frequency of risky sexual behaviors and self-infection risk [6, [23][24][25], leading to greater susceptibility and transmission of AIDS [22,26].…”

“…The virus progressively impairs the immune system by attacking and destroying CD4 T cells, resulting in life-threatening opportunistic infections [5]. Without treatment, most HIV-infected individuals will develop AIDS in an average of 8-10 years after initial infection [6].…”
