Qualitative analysis of the acetogenins from Annona coriacea (Annonaceae) leaves by HPLC-Q-Orbitrap and their antibacterial potential against oral pathogens

Abstract: Araticum is an edible and appreciable fruit of Annona coriacea, which is popularly known as a traditional herb in the Brazilian cerrado. A phytochemical study from the leaves of A. coriacea showed that HPLC-ESI-Q-Orbitrap ® provided through PRM experiments (MS 2 ) is an efficient method for the fast and accurate analysis of a complex mixture of annonaceous acetogenins, with the identification of sylvaticin and gigantetrocin-A type acetogenins for the first time. In addition, the crude leaf extract and acetogen… Show more

“…Acetogenins compounds (1a-c, 2a-c, 3a-b isomers) were identified in the four samples (Table 1); 5a-c isomers [9] are present in three samples (AcL1, AcL3, and AcL4). Regarding the relative areas of the compounds identified (Figure 4), the main constituents of the most active fraction (AcL3) are 1a, 2c, 3a, and 5b isomers (80.10%).…”

“…The ethyl acetate fraction (20.4 g) was chromatographed on a silica gel (70-230 mesh) column (5.0 × 13.0 cm) with hexane/ethyl acetate/methanol gradient (1:0:0; 1:1:0; 0:1:0; 0:1:1; 0:0:1) to yield five fractions (6)(7)(8)(9)(10). Fr.…”

“…The chemical diversity present in Annonaceae species is vast, yielding a plethora of natural compounds such as alkenes [4], terpenoids [5], alkaloids [6][7][8][9][10], and phenols [11]. These compounds demonstrate a broad spectrum of pharmacological activities, including anti-mosquito [12], anti-cancer [13][14][15], antibacterial [16], anti-protozoal [17,18], and antifungal [19]. Among them, Annonaceous acetogenins stand out for their potent anti-tumor potential, making them one of the most promising natural product discoveries [20].…”
