“…Prior to this study we were aware that the two KT Signature I regions had published articles on the implementation of rectal cancer surgery KT interventions in addition to those championed by Cancer Care Ontario. 13,14 Our results suggest that outside of these two regions, none of the other 12 Ontario regions implemented similarly intense KT strategies.…”

“…For example, in year 2006, the sustained iterative Quality Improvement in Colorectal Cancer strategy was initiated in one region of Ontario with a population of 1.4 million. 13 The strategy incorporated iKT principles and was informed by the KTA Cycle. Brie y, front-line surgeons co-designed all aspects of the strategy, including the selection of quality markers for assessment and KT interventions to optimize marker scores.…”

“…For example, in year 2006, the sustained iterative Quality Improvement in Colorectal Cancer in LHIN 4 strategy(QICC-L4) was initiated in the LHIN4 region of Ontario (population 1.4 million). 13 The QICC-L4 incorporated iKT principles and was informed by the KTA Cycle. Briefly, front-line LHIN4 surgeons co-designed all aspects of the strategy, including the selection of quality markers for assessment and KT interventions to optimize marker scores.…”

“…[7][8][9][10][11][12] There are reports of KT interventions used in other LHINs to improve rectal cancer surgery care in addition to those encouraged by Cancer Care Ontario. 13,14 We piloted a methodology to summarize and score at the LHIN level all KT activities implemented to improve the quality of rectal surgery. This included identifying KT interventions implemented using progressive KT approaches such as integrated KT and use of theory.…”

“…Chart reviews related to an ongoing LHIN4 surgical quality improvement project provided data on consecutive cases of rectal cancer surgery from all LHIN4 hospitals. 12 Data including radiology reports were collected annually for 6 or 12 month periods for years 2011-2014. Four iterations of data collection were included in this time period (iterations V-VIII).…”
