Quality Markers of Dendrobium officinale by “Oligosaccharide-Spectrum-Effect” Relationships

Abstract: Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo has been used as a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and a functional food for thousands of years. Carbohydrate is one of the most important effective substances and indicative components in D. officinale. However, since the qualitative and quantitative analysis of polysaccharides in D. officinale remains a challenge and limitation, herein, an oligosaccharide-quality marker approach was newly developed for quality assessment of D. officinale by spectrum–effect relationship… Show more

“…29 It is suggested that the natural oligosaccharides present in the plant have a lower molecular weight and greater solubility, foreshadowing that oligosaccharides may exhibit similar or even greater activity. 30 Therefore, oligosaccharides, the main components in the water decoction of Asparagi radix, may be worth investigating and are of great significance for the development of Asparagus cochinchinensis .…”

“…32 TCM oligosaccharides play an important role in nutrition, healthcare, and disease prevention and have broad application prospects in the field of medicine. Numerous in vitro and in vivo experiments exhibited that oligosaccharides possess various activities, including anti-inflammatory, 28,30 antidiabetic, 33,34 antidepressant, 35,36 antioxidant, 37 antineoplastic, 38 anti-ageing, immunopotentiation, enhanced memory and neuroprotective, 39 which have been revealed in recent years. Furthermore, its anti-inflammatory property is one of the most important biological effects of Asparagi radix.…”

“…Although Q‐marker research is still in its infancy, several research strategies have been developed to discover and identify quality markers, such as systems pharmacology, pharmacokinetic analysis, chimidomics integrating serum pharmacochemistry and metabolomics technique, chemical‐activity‐based systematic screening, and so on (Lu, Jin, et al, 2022; Ren et al, 2020). Among them, the spectrum–effect relationship‐based strategy, which correlates the biological and chemical information and reflects the key components related to efficacy and safety, has been a general practice for Q‐marker screening (Li et al, 2019; Liu et al, 2022; Lu, Li, et al, 2022).…”
