“…The characteristics of the included studies are shown in Table A1 . There were 13 studies that conducted CGA pre-treatment [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ] and six studies that conducted CGA post-treatment [ 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ]. A total of 17 studies included patients >65 years of age or older.…”

“…The studies were categorised into four main themes based on their aim: (1) to determine factors influencing survival or mortality, which comprised five papers [ 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 19 ], (2) as an adjunct to treatment decision-making, which comprised six papers [ 16 , 17 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 ] (3) to measure quality of life and functional status, which comprised four papers [ 18 , 24 , 25 , 26 ], and (4) to determine which tools should be used in CGA, which comprised three papers [ 27 , 28 , 29 ]. Further discussion about the findings of studies and future directions are highlighted in Table A3 .…”

“…59 Brachytherapy is an alternative to EBRT APBI and can be performed using interstitial catheters or applicator-based devices. The original modern RCT evaluating APBI utilized interstitial/electron APBI (36.4 Gy/7 fractions) compared [80][81][82] Applicator brachytherapy represents an alternative to interstitial brachytherapy; this technique was included in NSABP B-39, but no randomized trial has evaluated this technique exclusively. However, the MammoSite prospective registry evaluated 1449 patients treated with a singlelumen brachytherapy applicator (34 Gy/10 fractions, twice daily); 5-year outcomes demonstrated a 3.8% rate of local recurrence with 91% excellent/good cosmesis; toxicity profiles were also low, with a 14.8% rate of noninfectious complications at 1 year.…”

“…Single-fraction high-dose brachytherapy dose delivered ranged between 16 and 21 Gy. Median ages of patients treated ranged from 64 to 77 years, and included patients with early-stage breast cancer [18][19][20][21][22][23][24].…”

“…The most significant study reported was a randomized controlled trial of single-fraction 19 Gy vs. two fractions of 13.5 Gy [ 18 ]. This study included 170 patients with either low- or intermediate-risk, with no prior androgen deprivation therapy.…”
