“…4 ). A review of the available literature shows that quality of life after endoscopic skull base surgery presents to be largely good [ 18 , 19 , 34 , 48 ]. In some cases, restrictions are described in the first few months after surgery, mainly related to a reduced smell function which usually improves over time.…”

“…This remodeling can have a negative effect on nasal function and might cause significant subjective discomfort for the patient. In some publications, the patients’ quality of life after such interventions is surveyed using questionnaires [ 16 19 ]. On one hand, however, specific negative factors are often missing with these instruments, on the other hand, they are lacking of objective functional parameters in addition to subjective symptoms.…”

“…Awareness of these problems by the medical staff and family members may benefit the long‐term follow‐up and prognosis and should take it into mind when discussing treatment options and long‐term outcome with patients (Zhu et al, 2021 ). Psychological comfort, social support and effective rehabilitation guidance, detailed health education should be resorted to reduce the physical and psychological burden of patients with pituitary tumours (Dolci et al, 2021 ; Marx et al, 2021 ), and it is recognized that overwhelmingly avoided, resignated coping may make a negative impact on the disease, while appropriately guiding patients to take more active coping strategies are necessary.…”

“…We could not prove a significant change in QoL in NFPA patients following TSS, despite the fact that the effects of surgery in our group were not inferior to other studies. Results from other prospective observational studies analyzing the effects of TSS on QoL in patients with sellar masses, including NFPAs, are inconsistent, revealing very good improvements [ 38 , 39 ], moderate improvements [ 40 , 41 , 42 ], or no improvements [ 43 ]. Interestingly, Tanemura et al reported that NFPA patients who required hormonal substitution scored much lower on the SF-36v2 scale postoperatively and most likely have worse prognosis for improvement [ 40 ].…”
