Quality of life in rural work: an analysis of the ergonomics operator relationship in agricultural machines in the region Pampa Gaúcho

Abstract

The process of modernizing agriculture has resulted in the replacement of manual labor with machines. The mechanization of this sector, despite favoring increased production and efficiency, has led to consequences with environmental and social impacts. From a social perspective, the effects on the health and quality of life of workers stand out, as studies indicate that exposure to agricultural machinery can contribute to poorer health conditions for workers in this sector. Therefore, this present study aimed to investigate ergonomic factors related to the discomfort of agricultural machinery operators in the municipality of Dom Pedrito – RS. To achieve this, 75 tractor and combine operators from different rural properties in the municipality were interviewed using a set of open and closed-ended questions. The data were tabulated and analyzed through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Frequency Analysis (FA). The research revealed that agricultural machinery has a significant impact on the health and comfort of workers during and after their work shifts.
