“…In the quasiexperimental study, there were only eight participants in the treatment group (Shu & Lung, 2005). Eleven studies used the SF-36 to measure HRQOL (Allik et al, 2006;Da Costa et al, 2006;Eker & Tuzun, 2004;Foster et al, 1998;MacArthur et al, 2002;McClean et al, 2000;Morrell et al, 2000;Nicholson et al, 2006;Reid et al, 2002;Rudolph et al, 2005;Yamazaki et al, 2005). Individual studies used the SF-12 (Salsberry et al, 1999), the Dartmouth COOP charts (Nuwagaba-Biribonwoha et al, 2006), or the WHOQOL-BREF (Shu & Lung, 2005).…”

“…Provision of supplementary oxygen at home allows earlier discharge from hospital but can adversely affect a family's quality of life [9] . Infants requiring supplementary oxygen at home have the most severe lung disease, as evidenced by their need for hospital readmission in the first 2 years after birth being twice that of those with BPD who are not home oxygen dependent [7] .…”

“…Results of a small study, in which a standardised questionnaire was used, suggested that mothers of premature infants receiving home oxygen therapy had less vitality and more mental health problems than mothers of infants not receiving home oxygen therapy [6]. Our results demonstrate that a policy of greater use of home oxygen for CLD infants neither increased the risk of readmission nor the cost of care at follow-up.…”
