Quality of service support in 1x EV-do revision a systems

Abstract: Quality of service (QoS) The 1x EV-DO Revision A (DOrA) system incorporates multifaceted improvements to support QoS applications. The enhancements over the air interface, especially on the reverse link, help in reducing call setup times, decreasing transmission delays, and allowing service control by diverse methods that include not only the user-based control as DOr0 does, but also a new "flow-based" QoS controlling approach. A flow for an application is a series of packets that share a specific instantiat… Show more

“…The second observation is that, to guarantee a certain degree of QoS for Web traffic while the VoIP traffic has reached its own QoS requirements, priority should be given to Web traffic when scheduling. This implies that an appropriate QoS scheduling should exist to support QoS for multiple classes of traffic in the network, which is still an open area for EVDO networks [8].…”

“…However, how these two impact each other is not clear when both require QoS. Therefore, how to do resource allocation and QoS scheduling for mixed traffic in an EVDO network is still under investigation [3], [8].…”

“…Improving the overall network capacity and performance requires developing appropriate methods and algorithms to gain knowledge of the user specific radio frequency (RF) condition and application traffic requirement. Innovative techniques in radio resource management have been designed for infrastructure based commercial wireless systems and networks [2] [3]. In this paper, we propose to develop an intelligent MAC protocol with a design approach that focuses on the development of distributed algorithms to exploit time and user diversity to improve the network efficiency.…”
