Quality of vision and outcomes after bilateral implantation of pseudo-non diffracting beam IOL

Abstract: PurposeTo analyze the objective and subjective visual performances of a new hybrid refractive/aspheric extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens (IOL).MethodsIn this monocentric prospective study patients with bilateral cataracts underwent cataract surgery and were implanted with a Lucidis IOL (SAV-IOL SA, Neuchâtel, Switzerland) in both eyes, 1 week apart from each other. At 3 months from implantation postoperative evaluations included monocular and binocular uncorrected and distance-corrected distant (… Show more

“…For metal components, titanium alloys are a stable option for long-term implants, such as the silicone-coated titanium WIMAGINE brain implant used to restore walking ability. , The coating of metallic implants can further boost biocompatibility, such as the coating of titanium pacemakers with silver ions to reduce infection risk . Simple prosthetics such as the intraocular lens (IOL) implant are made from silicone or other polymers, and they can cure cataracts and provide spectacle independence for near or far-sightedness by accurately focusing light on the retina. The challenges of infection, biocompatibility, and functional lifetime mean that, when possible, abiotic modules that can interface without surgery should be used, such as goggles that interface with optogenetically engineered RGCs (Figure C) …”
