Quality, Yield and Nutrient Uptake of Fenugreek as Influenced by Integrated Nutrient Management

Abstract: Organic Agriculture sustain and enhance the health of soil, plant, animal, human and planet as one and indivisible. The experiment was carried out at Agriculture experimental field, Nehru PG collage Lalitpur (U.P.) during 2014-15. Lalitpur district is a part of Bundelkhand plateau. Betwa River is the boundary between Jhansi and Lalitpur in the north. Most of the area is under the average elevation of 300 m to 450 m from the sea level, whereas some portion in south has an elevation above 450m. Its latitudinal e… Show more

“…The most obvious notion for regulating and maintaining soil health and crop productivity is the integrated use of organic and inorganic sources of nutrients [ 7 , 8 ]. Integrated nutrient management is one of the most important components towards enhancing crop production and sustaining soil fertility [ 4 , 5 , 9 ]. Due to application of P fertilizers during crop production, a huge amount of P converts into unavailable forms and is fixed into the soil [ 10 ].…”

“…Increase in seed yield per plant might be associated to more efficient sink formation, greater sink size and greater carbohydrates translocation from vegetative parts to seeds. Humic substances of vermicompost which is known for induction of lateral root growth by stimulation of H + -ATPase activity in the plasma membrane and might have enhanced the uptake and transfer of nutrients and finally resulted in good source to sink relationship as per Dotaniya et al [12].…”

“…Application of 90 kg K 2 O ha -1 and 40 kg S ha -1 significantly increased the protein content and sulphur uptake of berseem [34,28]. Rhizobium 30g/pot produced significantly higher protein content and fenugreek yield than other Rhizobium treatment and control [35]. Application of 90 kg P 2 O 5 ha -1 and 40 kg S ha -1 significantly increased the protein content and yield of green gram [36].…”
