Quantification and distribution of α1‐adrenoceptor subtype mRNAs in human vas deferens: comparison with those of epididymal and pelvic portions

Abstract: 1 This study was intended to quantify the amounts of the a 1 -adrenoceptor subtype mRNAs in human vas deferens, and demonstrate the receptor subtype responsible for the vas contraction. 2 The RNase protection assay showed that the mean total amount of a 1a mRNA was 7.4+2.2 pg/5 mg of poly (A) + RNA (97.0% of the total a 1 mRNA) in the epididymal portion (E-vas) and 4.9+0.8 pg/ 5 mg of poly (A) + RNA (96.3% of the total) in the pelvic portion (P-vas). The E-vas showed a tendency to have a greater a 1a mRNA abun… Show more

“…It is reported that alpha1A-AR is mainly expressed in the bladder neck, vas deferens, and seminal vesicles, and mediates human vas deferens contraction. 37,38 Therefore, this adverse effect may be explained by the high alpha1A-AR subtype selectivity of Silodosin.…”

“…Song et al [22] reported that the overall incidence of ejaculatory dysfunction was 13.4% after 12 weeks of 0.2 mg tamsulosin treatment. Retrograde ejaculation is caused by smooth muscle relaxation in the prostate, urethra, bladder neck and vas deferens.…”

“…The alpha 1A -AR is mainly expressed in the bladder neck, vas deferens and seminal vesicles. 23 Moreover, Moriyama et al 28 showed that the alpha 1A -AR subtype mediates human vas deferens contraction. Therefore, this adverse effect is explained by the high alpha 1A -AR subtype selectivity of silodosin.…”
