“…The operative methodology for identifying the cost-optimality, for reference buildings, is exhaustively described in the EU Commission Delegated Regulation n. 244/2012 [4], which provides a comparative method. This approach has been already proposed in sample studies, such as the one of the Building Performance Institute European (BPIE) for Germany, Poland, and Austria [5], but also in recent scientific papers concerning the design of new buildings [6,7] or the refurbishment of existing ones [8,9], even when characterized by historical value. Furthermore, with reference to the EPBD Recast, the optimized energy demand of a building should be mainly met by means of the use of in-situ renewable energy systems.…”

“…Additional benefits include the creation or retention of jobs and investments in local companies, thereby benefiting local workers. In a study of economic benefits of renovation of apartment buildings in Estonia it was found that 17 jobs per EUR 1 million of investment in renovation were generated per year (Pikas et al 2015). Out of these 17 jobs, 10 had been created on the construction site, 1 in the consultancy and 6 in manufacturing industries.…”

“…Another approach consists in using statistical data to extract statistically relevant parameters [32,46,47]. This information can be used, as done by Schwehr et al [48], to define 'building typologies' within the building stock, where each typology corresponds to a building with the same set of parameters, including period of construction, context, construction characteristics, and other features related to the assessment objectives.…”
