Quantification of Glyphosate and AMPA by HPLC-ICP-MS/MS and HPLC-DAD: A Comparative Study

Abstract: In this work, the direct determination methodology of glyphosate and aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using inductively coupled plasma with triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (ICP-MS/MS) was compared with the conventional method using diode array detector (HPLC-DAD). Both methods were selective, but the chromatographic analysis using ICP-MS/MS as detector was four times faster than DAD. The methodology using ICP-MS/MS as detector was linear from 27 to 218 μg L… Show more

“…Various methods have been used to determine or extract traces of GLP and AMPA from liquids, solids, and plants (Table ). Multimethod approaches, including chromatography, adsorption-extraction systems, ,,,, optical, ,, electrochemical, ,, ,,, and scanning-probe techniques, immunochemistry, and microfluidic LOCs ,, exploit modern GLP-sensitive materials to detect and analyze, as well as to extract and degrade, GLP traces. Hybrid nanomaterials used in these approaches include enzymes (AChE, ESPS), deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)- or antibody-based aptamers, immune-magnetic conjugates, MIPs, and inorganic materials.…”

“…With porous (graphitized carbon absorbent)-based chromatography coupled to a three-quadrupole MS detector, the 6 ng/mL LOD of GLP in aqueous solutions was attained . In a similar study, with an HPLC coupled with an inductively coupled plasma (ICP-MS) detector or a diode array detector (DAD), GLP was determined with the LOD of 8.2 and 300 μg/L, respectively . Chromatographic analysis was employed for the GLP determination in real-life water samples from 10 agricultural provinces of China during various meteorological conditions .…”

“…The use of HPLC coupled to ICP-MS/MS for the simultaneous and direct determination of the herbicide glyphosate and its primary degradation product, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) in water samples from artesian wells, dams, water springs and cisterns has been reported on ref. 160. The separation was carried out using standard HPLC conditions including: a C 8 column (Zorbax SB-C 8 , 4.6 Â 150 mm, 5 mm); an injection volume of 50 mL; a mobile phase composed of 50 mmol L À1 acetic acid/ammonium acetate solution, 5 mmol L À1 tetrabutylammonium, 1% (v/v) methanol at pH 4.7, and isocratic elution at 1.0 mL min À1 .…”
