“…Tea saponin (TS) is a mixture of oleanane‐type pentacyclic triterpene (OPT) saponins extracted from Theaceae camellia plants. It has high surface activity as well as multiple biological properties, such as antiinflammatory (Sagesaka‐Mitane et al, ), antibiosis (Chattopadhyay et al, ), antioxidant (Sur, Chaudhuri, Vedasiromoni, Gomes, & Ganguly, ), antihypertensive (Sagesaka‐Mitane, Sugiura, Miwa, Yamaguchi, & Kyuki, ), antihypercholesterolemic (Matsui et al, ), and alcohol dehydrogenase (Varughese et al, ) activity, so TS has been widely applied in medicine, commodities, pesticides, construction materials, food industry, and so on. Every year, however, tens of thousands of tons of camellia dregs are wasted, which contains 15–20% TS.…”
