Quantitative and qualitative analysis of the quality of life of Type 1 diabetes patients using insulin pumps and of those receiving multiple daily insulin injections

Abstract: Introduction Insulin pump therapy represents an alternative to multiple daily injections and can improve glycemic control and quality of life (QoL) in Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients. We aimed to explore the differences and factors related to the T1DM-specific QoL of such patients in Latvia. Design and methods A mixed-method cross-sectional study on 87 adult T1DM patients included 20 pump users and 67 users of injections who participated i… Show more

“…Indeed, using IoT may be challenging for different groups such as older adults as well as individuals with communication disabilities or limited abilities. Accordingly, even though IoT is taking health care to the next stage worldwide, it could paradoxically exclude some people who need it [ 6 , 114 ]. Therefore, a similar threat may affect the veterinary sector, whose development rate is still quite lagging behind that of human medicine.…”

“…The development of a new diagnostic method is extremely important rstly for the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases, to ensure simplied screening in populations with frequent certain autoimmune diseases, e.g., in Finland the incidence of T1D is 52.2 per 100 000 children, 57 in Sweden -39.6 per 100 000, 60 in Norway -33.6 per 100 000, 60 while the world average -15 per 100 000, 61 in turn in Latvia T1D incidence is lower than the world average -13.5 per 100 000. 62 Secondly a relatively low incidence does not reduce the importance of the method, it would be important in differential diagnostics in cases when it is necessary to nd out/clarify whether an autoimmune condition is responsible for unclear symptoms.…”
