Quantitative Assessment of99mTc-Depreotide Uptake in Oesophageal Cancer and Precursor Conditions and Its Reflection in Immunohistochemically Detected Somatostatin Receptors

Abstract: Background. Somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) are over-expressed in several tumors making it possible for imaging with labelled SSTR. A previous study showed feasibility to image oesophageal cancer with SSTR analogue 99mTc-depreotide. Purpose. (1) To investigate expression of the SSTRs in different types of esophageal carcinoma and (2) to correlate such an expression with 99mTc-depreotide uptake in these lesions. Material and Methods. Total 28 patients (17 with esophageal cancer and 11 with Barrett's esophagus) w… Show more

“…nanoparticles and Raman spectroscopy), fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography at 4-8 weeks after completing treatment is the test of choice for identifying metastasis after treatment with chemoradiation. [47][48][49][50][51][52][53] Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy Oesophagogastroduodenoscopy (OGD) enables direct visualization, tissue retrieval, therapeutic resection and ablation. While some advocate for using OGD following definitive chemoradiation to evaluate for residual tumour, others advise caution given its low sensitivity and poor positive predictive value.…”

“…Therefore, cases showing 68 Ga-DOTATATE uptake in several nonneuroendocrine tumors have been reported in the literature 2,3 . Herlin et al 4 used 99m Tc-depreotide to demonstrate that esophageal adenocarcinoma has significant SSTR expression. The presence of a significant number of somatostatin ( D ) cells in the columnar epithelium of the stomach and the association of Barrett esophagus as a precursor lesion in the majority of esophageal adenocarcinomas are considered to explain this SSTR expression 5 .…”
