Quantitative determination of tantalum in niobium by neutron activation analysis

Abstract: A method was devised for the determination of Ta both in mixtures of NbCl5–TaCl5 and in mixtures of ANbCl6–ATaCl6, where A = Na, K, Rb, or Cs. The method involves neutron activation analysis of Nb2O5–Ta2O5 samples prepared by conversion of the chlorocompounds.

“…The geochemical materials containing these Clements are usuaDy treated with HF, since they easily form soluble fluorocomplexes [4] for which various solvent extraction procedurcs have been developed [5][6][7]. A number of procedures for the simultaneous determination of Nb and Ta have also been reported from ores and natural water by neutron activation analysis [8][9][10][11][12][13], and substoichiometric extraction methods [14][15][16]. Ta has been determined in biological [17,18], gcological [19,20] and many othcr samplcs [21][22][23] using methods such as Chromatographie Separation, precipitation, XRF energy dispersive analysis, absorption spectrometry, X-ray fluorescence analysis, spectrophotometric etc.…”
