Quantitative estimation of renal blood flow by power Doppler ultrasonography in renovascular hypertensive dogs

Abstract: Our data suggest that the acute inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme increased RCBF in both CK and NK of chronic 2K-1C dogs. The quantitative analysis of PD flow signals in kidney is noninvasive and a useful method to evaluate regional changes of renal tissue blood flow in various renal diseases.

“…Bude et al [18] first reported the imaging ability of PDS on renal cortical blood perfusion. Since then, many studies have used PDS to study the effects of various kidney diseases on renal blood flow [15,[19][20][21] . Previous studies have shown that CPDS can contributes to the diagnosis of APN, Anne Hitzel [7] has shown that although the predictive value of CPDS for renal scar is not high, the results of CPDS and DMSA are consistent in 81% of APN kidneys, suggesting that it is better clinical application value.…”

“…The application of the ultrasonic flow probe technique in RBF measurement in dogs has been validated (21). This technique was used to provide the reference values of RBF in the studies using power-Doppler ultrasonography and CEUS and to evaluate the change in renal perfusion in dogs with renal arterial stenosis and renovascular hypertension (21,22). After placing the probe to the renal artery, we could continuously measure blood flow with the probe.…”

“…The quantitative estimate of the kidney cortical blood flow by spectral Doppler ultrasonography may be useful in the investigation of kidney physiology, providing characterization of a variety of kidney disturbances, including renovascular hypertension (Myajima et al, ). In the CVL‐negative animals the vascular flow observed by the color Doppler and its spectral line agree with comparable findings from Szatmári et al () who studied the main abdominal blood vessels of dogs using Doppler techniques.…”
