Abstract:The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe is especially well suited for studying meiosis in molecular detail. Experiments with S. pombe strains that undergo a nearly synchronous meiosis—at variable temperatures—have elucidated the mechanisms of meiotic progression and the proteins that are involved.
