Quantum Structure for Modelling Emotion Space of Robots

Abstract: Utilising the properties of quantum mechanics, i.e., entanglement, parallelism, etc., a quantum structure is proposed for representing and manipulating emotion space of robots. This quantum emotion space (QES) provides a mechanism to extend emotion interpretation to the quantum computing domain whereby fewer resources are required and, by using unitary transformations, it facilitates easier tracking of emotion transitions over different intervals in the emotion space. The QES is designed as an intuitive and gr… Show more

“…Even if there is a prior attempt to use quantum concepts to describe emotions [46,47,48] (more specifically, a model of robot-specific emotions based on quantum cellular automata and Bloch sphere-based representations), the approach proposed in the present article is more general, since it is well grounded in constructor theory of information.…”

“…Intuitively, length is used to denote presence or absence of something. This intuition is widely used in emotional intelligence where the length of a shape indicates the magnitude of an emotion [ 32 ]. Here, we use length to denote the extent of learners’ engagement with activities in the classroom.…”

“…Their earlier work proposed that the PA plane is the xy -plane enclosed by the equator 5 . Later, discretization of the PA plane using a qubyte was proposed 23 . In recent work, the angular position is modeled as the polar angle of the qubit state 24 , and the information of emotion intensity is included comprising of levels, using n qubits incorporated with the Plutchik wheel 25 .…”

“…Lately, a 3-qubit representation was proposed by Yan et al based on the pleasure–arousal–dominance (PAD) model, each denoting the pleasure, arousal, and dominance dimension 26 . Apart from emotion representation, these authors also proposed the correspondence between human behavior and quantum modeling 4 , algorithms for quantum emotions in a time domain 5 , 23 , 25 , 26 , and in a multi-robot domain 24 . Despite the various representations and paradigms of quantum emotions, an underlying contextualized process of affect for those quantum emotions is still missing.…”
