Quark-gluon string-model description of baryon production in K ± N interactions

Abstract: The process of baryon production in Kp collisions at high energies is considered in the framework of the Quark-Gluon String Model. The contribution of the string-junction mechanism to the strange baryon production is analysed. The results of numerical calculations are in reasonable agreement with the data on inclusive spectra of p, Λ,Λ, and on theΛ/Λ asymmetry. The predictions for Ξ and Ω baryons are presented.

“…This picture leads to some general phenomenological predictions. In the case of inclusive reactions the baryon number transfer to large rapidity distances in hadron-nucleon and hadronnucleus reactions can be explained [14,24,34,35,36] by SJ diffusion.…”

“…2a. However, in the processes with incident baryons there exists another possibility to produce a secondary baryon in the central region, called SJ diffusion. The quantitative description of the baryon number transfer due to SJ diffusion in rapidity space was obtained in [19] and following papers [4,5,20,21,22,24].…”

“…The significant differences in the yields of baryons and antibaryons in the central (midrapidity) region are present even at high energies. This effect can be explained [4,5,19,20,21,22,23,24] in QGSM by the special structure of baryons consisting of three valence quarks together with a special configuration of gluon field, called String Junction [25,26,27,28].…”

“…It is important to understand the role of the SJ mechanism in the dynamics of high energy hadronic interactions, in particular in processes implying baryon number transfer [13][14][15]. Significant results for hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus collisions were obtained in [15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22].…”

“…The SJ mechanism does not affect the production of antibaryons, so the Λ spectrum doesnÂt't depend on the value of α SJ , and it has a very small dependence on the strange quark suppression factor δ (see [18,19]).…”
