Quartz crystal microbalance coated with PEDOT–PSS/PVA nanofiber for a high-performance humidity sensor

Abstract: Abstract. Quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) coated with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) and polystyrene sulfonate mixed with polyvinyl alcohol (PEDOT–PSS/PVA) nanofiber has been fabricated as a humidity sensor using the electrospinning method. Three types of PEDOT–PSS/PVA nanofiber sensors are fabricated with different needle-to-collector electrospinning distances. The scanning electron microscope images confirm the presence of beads in the nanofiber structure. The results show that the sensor mass deposition… Show more

“…The MES-4 sensor sensitivity of this work was about 35.3 Hz/%RH, so this indicates that the MES-4 sensor shows very good sensitivity compared with the results of some previous studies. quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) techniques [46,47]. In this study, a magnetoelastic sensor was used to detect humidity.…”

“…PEDOT: PSS polymer commonly cast on indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate using spin-coating technique [28,29]. Electrospinning is another technique to cast PEDOT: PSS with the addition of poly (vinyl alcohol) or PVA as a flexible thin film [30][31][32][33]. In this study, we proposed a simple and low cost method to fabricate strain sening elements of strain sensor using PEDOT: PSS mixed PVA.…”

“…The QCM is basically a piezoelectric sensor platform employing acoustic-electric effects that can measure mass resolution down to the picogram level 25 . By modifying the QCM chip sensing area with appropriate sensing layers (e.g., polymers 2629 , metal oxides 30,31 , and some functional materials 32,33 ), specific analytes that are additionally deposited on its surface can induce a frequency shift, which can subsequently be translated into detected analyte mass according to the Sauerbrey equations 34 .…”
