Quasi-classical analysis of the dynamics of the high-order harmonic generation from solids

Abstract: We study numerically the Bloch electron wave-packet dynamics in periodic potentials to simulate laser-solid interactions. We introduce a quasi-classical model in the k space combined with the energy band structure to understand the high-order harmonic generation (HHG) process occurring in a subcycle timescale. This model interprets the multiple plateau structure in HHG spectra well and the linear dependence of cutoff energies on the amplitude of vector potential of the laser fields. It also predicts the emissi… Show more

“…For a fully consistent description, one needs quantum‐mechanical models such as the SBE, the solution of the time dependent many‐body Schrödinger equation, or a density matrix approach in order to properly capture the interplay between intra‐ and interband excitations in two bands and multi‐band models . Also Refs.…”

“…Also Refs. [] underpin the importance to consider multiple electronic bands in HHG studies to capture the polarization and carrier dynamics in multiple‐bands. Reference [], therefore, suggests to include the full electronic structure of the semiconductor in combination with the accurate crystal structure directly with an ab‐initio method, applying time‐dependent density‐functional theory.…”

“…Recently, multi-plateau HHG from solids are studied theoretically [7,8,11] and experimentally. Our theoretical model [10] propose that the multi-plateau structure reflects the population of higher conduction bands which are pumped step by step.In the solid systems, even-order harmonics are measured experimentally. They may come from the interference of HHG trajectories in the different valence bands [12].…”
