Quasi-elastic neutrino charged-current scattering off medium-heavy nuclei:40Ca and40Ar

Abstract: The charged-current quasi-elastic scattering of muon neutrinos on calcium and argon targets is calculated for neutrino energy up to 2.8 GeV. The calculations are done within the framework of the relativistic distorted-wave impulse approximation, which was earlier successfully applied to describe electron-nucleus data. The model is first tested against experimental data for electron scattering off calcium and then it is applied to calculate (anti)neutrino cross sections on 40 Ca and 40 Ar. We show that reduced … Show more

“…scattering off nuclei in the one-W-boson exchange approximation has been extensively described in previous works [33][34][35][36]. Here k i = (ε i , k i ) and k f = (ε f , k f ) are the initial and final lepton momenta respectively, p A = (ε A , p A ), and p B = (ε B , p B ) are the initial and final target momenta, respectively p x = (ε x , p x ) is the ejectile nucleon momentum, q = (ω, q) is the momentum transfer, and Q 2 = −q 2 = q 2 − ω 2 .…”

“…The inclusive cross sections with the FSI effects in the presence of the short-range NN correlations were calculated by using the method proposed in Refs. [33,36]. In this approach the contribution of the NN correlated pairs is evaluated in the IA, i.e., the virtual boson couples to only one member of the NN-pair.…”

“…The binding energy is often neglected but a minimal excitation energy required for the transition to the ground state of the final nucleus has been taken into account in the CCQE model of [55]. Nuclear spectral functions like the one of [73], obtained using empirical single particle wave functions and realistic calculations in nuclear matter (adapted for finite nuclei employing the local-density approximation (LDA)), from the convolution model [74] and from other (semi)phenomenological models [75,76] have been applied to electron and neutrino scattering in the QE region [55,[77][78][79][80][81][82]. Sometimes, realistic spectral functions for holes are combined with the use of plane waves for nucleons in the final state, eventually including Pauli blocking with a global Fermi momentum like in equation (34).…”

Examples of such an approach, known as plane wave impulse approximation (PWIA), for CCQE scattering can be found in [79,80,82,83].…”

“…which have been applied to study (anti)neutrino-nucleus reactions. In addition to these works many other theoretical models like superscaling approach [49], mean field approximation [50], relativistic meson-nucleon model [51], relativistic Green's function model [52], plane wave impulse approximation(PWIA) [53,54], distorted wave impulse approximation(DWIA) [55], etc., have been used in literature. Moreover, in the context of Fermi gas models the effect of two particle-two hole(2p-2h) correlation, meson exchange currents and multinucleon mechanism have also been considered in literature [56][57][58][59].…”
