“…Both of intermolecular ionic interactions of imidazolium salt groups and intramolecular actions between alkyl side chains and positively charged groups in imidazolium may provide thermodynamic driving force for micro-phase separation, which is an assumption in other reports. [39][40][41] Besides, the special heterogeneous morphology on magnetic block copolymer film surface generated from phase separation may affect antimicrobial activity.…”

“…This step of the experimental protocol appeared to have an effect on the findings because a reduction in the surviving number of bacteria was not confirmed for the samples stored in distilled water. Similar antibacterial activity for the non-stored and non-filled samples was not observed for E. coli , although Farah et al [47] and Lu et al [48] investigated the use of polymeric materials and reported significantly higher antibacterial activity against S. aureus than for E. coli . Several studies have reported that for antimicrobial additives and polymers, the effect against S. aureus was lower than that against E. coli [45,49,50], a difference that indicates significant variability in the results.…”

“…To improve the antibacterial properties or to pioneer new application fields of these antibiotics, numerous studies have been reported. However, most of them focused on synthesis of new antibacterial organic molecules (Kourai et al 2006;Chanawanno et al 2010;Shtyrlin et al 2016) or polymerization with R4N + (Jiao et al 2017;Farah et al 2015;Zaltsman et al 2016). That is, there is few report with respect to composites between metal or inorganic materials and antibiotic molecules.…”
