“…Non drug-related causes of myocarditis, such as viral infections, were less likely because of the lack of symptoms associated with viral disease and the arise of symptoms shortly after the initiation of clozapine. Besides clozapine, few cases have been described in which lamotrigine or quetiapine was the cause of drug-induced myocarditis [21][22][23][24]. However, our patient was using lamotrigine and quetiapine long before the symptoms occurred (> 1 year), making it far less likely to be the current cause of the myocarditis.…”

“…There are 2 case reports found on quetiapine associated with pericarditis/myopericarditis including the first highlighted case report 2,8 . The other case report discusses a patient who had quetiapine associated with myopericarditis 8 . The second and third case reports would suggest that aripiprazole could be a safe alternative atypical antipsychotic for patients who developed pericarditis while on clozapine, as these 2 patients did not have a recurrence of pericarditis when clozapine was discontinued and did not have pericarditis while on aripiprazole 5,6 .…”

“…Quetiapine is a dibenzothiazepine derivative second generation antipsychotic agent. Clozapine, a structurally similar dibenzodiazepine derivative second-generation antipsychotic, is similar to quetiapine in terms of its mechanism of action and side effects, including cardiac adverse event 6,7 . It has been found that approximately 1-3% of patients treated with clozapine developed myocarditis 8,9 .…”

“…In the literature, there are three cases of myocarditis associated with the use of quetiapine to date. In one of these cases, quetiapine was used alone, in the other cases combined with lithium or methylphenidate 4,5,7 . We present the second case of myocarditis related to quetiapine treatment alone.…”
