Abstract: Abstract. Based on direct sequencing information from 5H UTR and NS5B regions, we identified subtype 1b as a predominant hepatitis C virus genome in Turkey, which affected more than 91% of 79 patients studied. Next, the full genome sequence of a Turkish 1b isolate was obtained by the cloning of polypeptide-encoding region into 7 overlapping fragments. Turkish 1b isolate, which was named HCV-TR1, comprises 9361 nucleotides, including 306 nucleotides of 5 H UTR, a single long open reading frame of 9033 nucleotid… Show more

“…Genotype determination rates vary by sample handling procedure and analysis method. According to the results of many other studies, genotype 1b is the most prevalent (66%-100%) HCV genotype in Turkey, and our findings are compatible with these results (3)(4)(5)(14)(15)(16)(17)(18)(19)(20). In a comprehensive survey, 87.2% of the patients had genotype 1b, 9.9% had genotype 1a, 0.9% had genotype 2, 1.4% had genotype 3, and 0.6% had genotype 4 (18).…”

“…The majority of IDUs harboured the genotypes 1a (60.8%), 3a (25.6%), while other chronically HCV mono-infected patients at the Pasteur Institute of Morocco in Casablanca primarily exhibited genotypes 1b and 2a/2c respectively (Table 1). A similar IDU profile has been documented in anti-HCV-positive subjects in other countries, some of which are in direct contact with Morocco and hugging the Mediterranean basin, such as Spain, Turkey, Croatia, and France (Payan et al; Yildiz et al; Vince et al; Lopez-Labrador et al) [17,21,34,35]. The Moroccan IDU profile does not match with neighbouring country Algeria or central Africa, which exhibit 1b, 2a/2c, and 4 as the predominant genotypes respectively (Rouabhia et al; Xu et al) [36,37], however we note that these cited studies were carried out in chronically infected and hemodialysis patients.…”
