“…To the Editor: The letter by Miller and colleagues 1 titled "Racial Disparities in Hypertension Control: Not the Provider but Still a Problem" correctly notes that our study 2 did not focus on the appropriateness of the type of prescribed antihypertensive medication based on the presence of cardio vascular comorbidities, as recommended by the Seventh Report of the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Eval uation, and Treatment of High Blood Pres sure (JNC 7). In Miller and colleagues' study of 319 hypertensive patients with ≤1 cardio vascular comorbidity and public insurance, the majority were prescribed antihyper tensive medications consistent with JNC 7 guidelines.…”
