Radial artery pseudoaneurysm diagnosed by point-of-care ultrasound five days after transradial catheterization: A case report

Abstract: Radial artery pseudoaneurysm from arterial wall disruption is an extremely rare complication of arterial cannulation. Most prior case reports describe this complication occurring from continuous blood pressure monitoring or serial blood-gas analysis requiring extended cannulation. The increasing use of radial artery access for coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) introduces another susceptible patient population. [1-4] We report a case of a 57-year-old female with right radial arte… Show more

“…Our troponin findings also support those of previously published reports that troponin elevation in the setting of SVT is unreliable in predicting underlying coronary artery disease. [9][10][11][12] Only two of our patients were eventually diagnosed with an acute coronary syndrome (NSTEMI). Interestingly, both patients initially tested negative for hs-TnI before serial troponins were elevated.…”

“…2 Diagnosis and characterization of such a vascular defect is commonly made with duplex sonography due to its quick and dynamic capabilities. 1,3 In this case, the pseudoaneurysm was the result of an ankle sprain injury during a basketball game.…”
