Radial-mode abrasive waterjet turning of short carbon–fiber-reinforced plastics

Abstract: An experimental study is carried out for single-pass radialmode abrasive waterjet (AWJ) turning of a short carbon-fiberreinforced polyetheretherketone (PEEK) specimen to understand the machining process and the effects of major process variables (feed speed, water pressure, abrasive mass flow rate, nozzle tilt angle, and rotational surface speed) on the major machining performance measures, that is, the depth of cut, material removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness. It is found that high water pressure, norma… Show more

“…Thus, mechanical behavior played an important role in the extent of the damage. Li et al [101] used short fiber CFRP composite to study the cutting depth, MRR, and SR using radial mode AWJ turning process. Each test was performed with a turn of 10 mm distance length along with the work material, as shown in Fig.…”

“…It is suitable for many processing applications like cutting [5], drilling [6], milling [8] and turning [9] because of its low mechanical loading, reduced machining temperature, high productivity, reduced tooling and environmental friendliness [2,[5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. AWJ cutting is the ideal tool for trimming complex parts made from CFRP.…”
