Radiation of ultra-wideband electromagnetic pulses by pulsed excitation of rectangular antenna

Abstract: Rectangular (2.5×2 cm2 ) antennas fastened to an end of a transmission line were pulse-excited by 0.5 ns rise time pulses for radiation of ultra-wideband signals. Wideband horn antennas were used for receiving the signals and wideband sampling oscilloscope was used for their visualization. The signals were registered in 1-5.6 GHz frequency range and had the quasiGauss envelope form. The plane antennas made of Cu, resistive Al, and resistive nanostructured Ni thin films on supporting polyethylene terephthalate … Show more

“…We will use the definition of UWB signal [4]: signal is UWB if 0.25 ≤ η ≤1 and η = (f up -f low ) /(f up + f low ), where f up , f low are upper and lower frequencies of the signal spectra. Base B of long duration signal is equal to (f up -f low )⋅T, where T is signal duration and signals with B >> 1 are called large bandwidth and long duration signals (LB-LD).…”

“…On the other hand frequencies above 4 GHz were not used because of existence of linear-like decrease of the power density up to 16 GHz. It is known that the plot maximum of the spectral density of power can be shifted and also correction of the plot non-uniformities can be regulated, both by coating on the surface of antenna thin resistive or nanometric thin metallic films [11].…”
