Abstract: Oxygen (O2) sensitizes bacterial cells in at least two mechanistically different ways, depending on the specific O2 concentration present during irradiation. Based on previous work from this laboratory, it has been proposed that nitrous oxide (N2O) and low concentrations of O2 share a common mechanism for damage.
