Radiofrequency ablation and plication of hemorrhoids

Abstract: For advanced degree of piles with prolapse as the main symptom, plication of the pile mass along with radiofrequency ablation may be used as an alternative to the various types of hemorrhoidectomies. With this treatment, hospital stay is minimized, postoperative pain in low, recurrence is low and return to work is faster.

“…There have been reports of some serious complications like rectovaginal fi stula [8], sigmoid perforation [9], stenosis, fi stula, anastomotic dehiscence and sometimes reoperation was required in 3-15% of stapler hemorrhoidectomy [1,10]. Radio frequency ablation and plication of piles in combination have been used with good results [11]. Here the limitation is cost of infrared coagulator which costs around 4, 50,000 INR versus cryo apparatus costing a mere 10,000 INR.…”

“…Hemorrhoidal fixation helps attaching the hemorrhoidal cushions to the underlying internal sphincter and thereby it reduces the hemorrhoidal prolapse. It also minimizes the hemorrhoidal blood flow (47).…”

“…Hemorrhoidal suturing helps in attaching the hemorrhoidal cushions to the underlying structures and thereby reducing the hemorrhoidal prolapse. Suture ligation of the hemorrhoidal pedicle helps in minimizing the arterial inflow [47]. Another aim of the hemorrhoidal treatment, i.e.…”
