Long-term results with the Charnley total hip arthroplasty have been reported by a number of investigators (1,2,3,5,16,11,12,10,19,20). No clear reasons have been given to explain why the fate of the Charnley arthroplasty has withstood the test of time in such a superior manner despite major advances in the understanding of the chemical and mechanical behavior of foreign bodies implanted in the body.…”
