“…It is later followed by adequate sealing of canal spaces and restoration of root treated teeth to complete the treatment. 8,10,21 Different types of antimicrobials either single or in combination have been used in root canal disinfection. These antimicrobials act by promoting slow destruction of the biofilm structure by destroying persistent cell or quorum sensing signals, which then allows it to diffuse into the biofilm structure, signaling destruction of both the matrix and resident bacteria in the structure.…”

“…Hence, the penetrating ability of the traditional antimicrobial agents needs to be higher to reduce the remaining bacteria inside the dentinal tubules. 10 Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH) 2 ) and chlorhexidine (CHX) gluconate are commonly used as intracanal medicaments in endodontic therapy. The mode of action of Ca(OH) 2 allows it to be a physical barrier, disturbing remaining nutrient resources for bacteria, 8 and most importantly a high pH of 12.5 causes lysis of bacterial cell membrane and proteins.…”

“…Post success was defined according to the following criteria and as previously [25,30] (see Table 1): 1) between 3 and 5 mm gutta percha remaining; 2) absence of a gap between the most apical part of the post and the most coronal part of the gutta percha or presence of a small gap of up to 1 mm; 3) a post width of no more than one-third to one-half the root width; and 4) a crown-to-root ratio of one-half, two-thirds, 1/1. Each quality item was given a score of 0, 1, or 2 (Table 1) to generate a total score out of 8, which was then assigned a letter corresponding to the student's grade according to the percentage score, with F denoting a "fail" (A 90-100%, B 80-89%, C 70-79%, D 60-69%, F <60%).…”

“…The objective of root canal treatment is to prevent and treat apical periodontitis. 1 The primary etiologic agents of apical periodontitis are microorganisms and their by-products that have invaded the root canal system. 2 Proper chemo-mechanical debridement of the infected root canal followed by obturation and coronal restoration provides a favorable outcome of root canal treatment.…”
